Discrepancies with Tampa woman’s claims of monkey and racist note left on desk

In response to many of our viewers' concerns, we took another look at the case and reached back out Silar, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and her boss.

A story we first reported last week is receiving a lot of attention on social media.

Now some viewers are questioning the validity of a Tampa woman claiming to be the target of a racist at her job. In Teri Silar’s post, she claims someone left a monkey with a noose around its neck along with a handwritten note which includes the N-Word signed by “Whites 4 Trump.”

In response to many of our viewers' concerns, we took another look at the case and reached back out Silar, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and her boss.

We found several discrepancies mostly when it comes to the date of the alleged incident.

According to the police report, the alleged incident happened Thursday, 2/22/18, but Silar posted about it on Wednesday night. When comparing the Facebook post to the police report it may seem like she posted about the incident the day before it allegedly happened.

When we pointed out the discrepancy to Silar she said it did happen on Wednesday, but she waited a day to tell her boss because he wasn’t available on Wednesday.

Silar’s boss says she’s worked for his roofing company for about three weeks. He is standing by her claims and is taking measures to make sure she feels safe. He said he installed security cameras Monday morning.

In a statement, he said, “For someone to do that is a horribly dark thing.”

While the sheriff’s office has closed its case, the owner is reaching out the FBI to see if they can further investigate.
